The operations at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital have been taken over by Evercare, an American private equity fund, after its chief executive stepped aside paving way for the operating committee comprising of three representatives from Evercare Health Fund to run operations, as per a statement by the hospital’s board on Monday.

Following allegations the hospital’s CEO Dr Felix Wanjala stepped aside for pushing staff to increase patients’ admissions.

Without naming officials, the statement read, “In the interim, the leadership of Nairobi Women’s Hospital will be undertaken by an Operating Committee reporting to the Board. This committee is comprised of three Evercare representatives.”

Inflaming bills was the reason the hospital shot to the limelight in recent times and this led to the suspension of the facility from the list of accredited service providers by all medical insurers.

The hospital was also suspended from the list of service providers by the Kenya Revenue Authority and the staff members were advised to visit other facilities.

The Dentist Council and Kenya Medical Practitioners said that they would investigate the matter independently and the hospital board said that it is carrying out an internal review.
