Naivasha Inland Container depot (ICD) still remains idle as it has not yet received a cargo train more than a month after His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta launched freights operations.

This raises questions for the possible delays as the corridor is set to become the Rift Valley transport corridor of choice easing the transportation of cargo to its neighboring countries and western part of Kenya.

December 17 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta official launched Standard Gauge Railway freight services from Mombasa to Naivasha ICD and despite the ICD receiving $65.7 million investment to facilitate construction to completion it is yet to be completed.

On the other hand, the project has been faced by hostilities by the transit service owners from Mombasa who have depended greatly from the freight services.

It is expected that the Naivasha ICD will expand trade services and will enable Kenya Revenue Authority to collect tax revenues that will boost the economy.

It is alleged that the ongoing construction will be complete in July should it be done in a normal pace.
