KQ Set to Fly Back Kenyans Stuck Oversees

Kenya Airways has chartered flights scheduled to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi between April 4 and April 8, flying back Kenyans stuck in China, India and Great Britain.

This is a relive for Kenyan families who long to reunite with members locked down by the coronavirus oversees.

In recent days, live interviews on local televisions of Kenyans stuck in these countries, especially India where they went for treatment, have shown that the people were running low on cash as they were only budgeted a specified period of time.

The move by the government rose after a series of complaints were raised on the social media alluding that there was racial discrimination of Africans in China.

However, only Kenyans who have been tested for the COVID-19 will be allowed back into the country.

In an interview with the Daily, the airline disclosed that passengers from London would pay Ksh 53,495 ($500) while those in Mumbai and Guangzhou will pay Ksh 46,005($430) and Ksh 80,242 ($750) respectively as a one-way ticket.

“This is a charter flight under normal operations, the cost is spread out. Now it is concentrated on a few flights. There is also the extra cost of protection, cleaning and fumigation.” KQ chief executive Allan Kivuka disclosed during the interview with the Nation Media Group.
